Radiative Acceleration of Coronal Gas in Seyfert Nuclei
نویسنده
چکیده
The line ratios from coronal gas in Seyferts can be successfully fitted with photoionized clouds of high densities and low volume filling factor. The ionization parameter implied is sufficiently high that models must consider the effect of radiation pressure from the active nucleus. In spite of the nucleus gravitational force, radiation pressure is sufficiently strong to compress and radially accelerate the internally stratified gas clouds provided these contain small amounts of dust (≃ 10% of solar neighborhood value). This radial acceleration could explain the blueshift of the coronal lines relative to systemic velocity without the need of invoking an ambient ‘pushing’ wind. Embedded dust has the interesting effect of making the photoionized clouds marginally ionization bounded instead of matter bounded.

The location and kinematics of the coronal-line emitting regions in AGN
We use the photoionisation code cloudy to determine both the location and the kinematics of the optical forbidden, high ionisation line (hereafter, FHIL) emitting gas in the narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy Ark 564. The results of our models are compared with the observed properties of these emission lines to produce a physical model that is used to explain both the kinematics and the source of thi...
متن کاملObscuration of Active Galactic Nuclei by Circumnuclear Starbursts
We examine the possibility of the active galactic nucleus (AGN) obscuration by dusty gas clouds that spurt out from circumnuclear starburst regions. For the purpose, the dynamical evolution of gas clouds is pursued, including the effects of radiation forces by an AGN as well as a starburst. Here, we solve the radiative transfer equations for clouds, taking into consideration the growth of cloud...
متن کاملWhere Is the Coronal Line Region in Active Galactic Nuclei ?
We report the new finding that type 1 Seyfert nuclei (S1s) have excess [FeVII]λ6087 emission with respect to type 2s (S2s). The S1s exhibit broad emission lines which are attributed to ionized gas within 1 pc of the black hole, whereas the S2s do not show such broad lines. The current unified model of active galactic nuclei explains this difference as that the central 1 pc region in the S2s is ...
متن کاملX-ray Emissions from Three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic Coronal Accretion Flows
We calculate the radiation spectrum and its time variability of the black hole accretion disk-corona system based on the three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulation. In explaining the spectral properties of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), it is often assumed that they consist of a geometrically thin, optically thick disk and hot, optically thin corona surrounding the thin disk. As for a mod...
متن کاملHigh Resolution X - Ray Spectroscopy of Seyfert 2 Galaxies
X-ray spectroscopy of Seyfert 2 galaxies provides an excellent probe of the circumnuclear environment in active galactic nuclei. The grating experiments on both Chandra and XMM-Newton have now provided the first high resolution spectra of several of the brightest Seyfert 2's. We present Chandra HETG data on Markarian 3, and XMM-Newton RGS data on NGC 1068. In both cases, the spectra are dominat...
